And in today's news

Followup with the surgeon today. He was quite pleased with where I am... All the stiches/staples are out, and they even removed the steri-strips. Fortunately, it's on my back, so I don't need to see the scar unless I want to 😀 Next appointment is Thursday for another imaging test. Thanks -a

Happy Monday

Home and starting to schedule the follow-up visits... 3 Dr appts this week, and hopefully get my PT schedule so I can stop walking up and down my hallway (that's getting a bit redundant.) I'm getting around with a walker, but the sooner I can start the "real" PT, the stronger the leg will get and hopefully chuck that thing in the garage.  Able to do some work things (thank goodness for cloud based file storage) and I MAY try to get some things out of the office this week if I really need them. More to come - thanks

heading home

I have received my “get out jail card”!  I just had the staples removed from my back and I’ll be headed home in a few minutes. Tomorrow is a dr appt and setting up the outpatient PT.  More later. Thx

and today…

legs definitely getting stronger. Did 2 “laps” ( and I use that term VERY loosely) without a walker. Ok, so 2 people were holding me up but hey! Progress!! Keep moving forward so I can get out of here and start the rest of the process ( I need a catchy saying for that!) Thanks all ☺️🥰

more PT

more pt today obviously. Except in my afternoon round my BP was low. It’s come back up but we couldn’t do everything we wanted. I did have a “group” session this morning so overall I’m pretty sure I did more today than yesterday.   Back in the room chilling for now.  TTYL.  -a

what happened?

I realized I haven’t really told the story here yet so let me do that now.  About five or six weeks ago I woke up with back pain wasn’t getting better really so I went to a couple of doctors who all diagnosed it as muscular. I saw my chiropractor I even got a back x-ray - nothing out of the ordinary.   I pulled plenty of muscles in my life although never in my back, but to me it just seemed different I thought there was a disc issue but the earliest that I could get in to see a back specialist was about three weeks out. So I was popping Tylenol and doing exercises and PT but it wasn’t really getting any better. About a week ago I started to, what I called, walk like a baby giraffe. I was very unstable on my feet. The Sunday before the Super Bowl my right leg kind of gave out and I just sat down I didn’t really fall but I couldn’t get up and so I got myself to the ER.  That’s where they finally did the MRI and found out that I had pancaked a disc. Surgery was gonna be the...

more OT and

more OT this morning and PT at about 1:30. Because I’ve been in bed for a week, it’s tough to build up the stamina but I’ve already pretty much had my fill here and need to push on to the next phase.  I’ll add more later. Thx for reading.

Dude… Seriously?

Welcome to another recovery blog.. this time it’s disc surgery recovery.  Hospital on Sunday, surgery on Monday night and I’m at Kessler in West Orange for PT. Hopefully for not too long.  As I did after dad’s accident, it will be easier for me to update in one place, so come here for the latest.  Thanks
