So, after skiing

Image
Guess who played ball yesterday... this guy! 6 months after the diagnosis and back surgery, and with 2 rods and 6 (or so) pins in my back, I got back into the box last night. And promptly hit a weak ground ball to short. Who for some reason - after getting the out at 2nd, didn't look how I was "running" and never tried for the (very easy) double play. Hey... I'm on first base! OK, it's a FC in the book, but I'll take it. Pinch runner please. Now, the 2nd AB... 😁 Was actually a fairly decent shot right down the 3rd base line. THAT was a clean single. (Pinch runner please!) No power behind it, but "hit 'em where they ain't" - right!  2 AB  1 1B  1.000 OB   .500 BA Not terrible at all. I'll repeat this part from the skiing post - before every surgery I ask:    "When can I play ball and when can I ski?" I NEEDED to get back on the field... I know it's taking time, but at least (for now) I can hit... I'll get to the fieldin...

Hey... I went skiing!

So I went skiing yesterday. In August. In NJ. Thanks to the American Dream Mall and "Big Snow" you can do that now. I posted a pic on FB and was shocked at the amount of comments and likes. Wow... thank you all SOOOO Much. This was really an important mental step for me.  I NEEDED to go skiing. First - I have a 55 year streak on the line - and it matters to me. I've been on skis every single year since I was 2. Every. Single. Year I go at least one. Through Cancer 1. Though a ruptured Achille's. Double Bypass. Shoulder surgery. Every single time I was in the hospital and/or having surgery I always ask the same 2 questions. When can I play ball When can I ski. So, even though it's a bit late in the season, I count it. Hey, it's not next season until the (outdoor) slopes open! So, I completed the goal of skiing this season (I missed the ball playing last session 😠 - but I'm going to play the summer/fall season!) Also, I do some of my best thinking on the s...

Well hello there

Howdy folks. It's been a while (sorry about that!) After a whirlwind 16 or so days in Australia, and a (relatively) quick bout with the Covid (yep, it finally got me.) I'm back (mentally and physically) - so why not an update? Saw the back surgeon yesterday. He's pretty happy with my progress (and since I couldn't walk when I first met him - so am I.)  He's upped my "weight limit" (the amount I'm allowed to lift) from 20lb to 40... now I just need to find a new gym!!! We scheduled a CT in January and he doesn't want to see me until February, so I guess that means (back wise) I'm getting there. Tomorrow is round 3 of Keytruda. Hoping for the same past results to continue. MRI scheduled for a couple of weeks, so we'll know more then. As I've told a few people - there's not much I get to control on this ride, so I (try) to keep a positive attitude and listen to the experts. Spring ball season ended, without me getting a plate appearan...
